I am Sandra Kramerova, Amsterdam-based dance maker and choreographer originally from Slovakia.
This is my 3rd year in Amsterdam, I moved here from NYC where I previously danced and studied for 7 years.
I make dances which combine strong physicality with philosophical ideas. My last work (About dance Fireflies and the end of the world as we know it) questioned the importance of Dance in present time society and my previous solo LADIA (stage dance and dance film) explored accomplishment struggle of female athletes and superheroines Lara Croft and Nadia Comaneci.
Two performances of About dance Fireflies and the end of the world as we know it were postponed. One was supposed to be a performance for about 150 students of Ecological pedagogy at University of Applied Sciences Utrecht and the other one as part of Dans in Ontwikkeling in Schiedam. Much anticipated screening of my dance film LADIA at CINEDANS 2020 was also unfortunately postponed.
“Hard to imagine what the future will bring.”
I am staying active via teaching online dance and yoga classes but of course miss rehearsing and performing. I do hope that once the theater world returns back to full glory, it will be without fear and that the audience will be even more eager to participate in the cultural life. Currently I am also rehearsing a solo for Amsterdam Fringe Festival in September called Body as a Weapon.
Hard to imagine what the future will bring. I look back at the title of my last piece About dance Fireflies and the end of the world as we know it and feel that it expresses how I feel, we are at the end of the world the way we knew it. Now a new world has to form itself and I hope it will be for the better!
